Artists Way, a 6-week course based on book “The Artists Way” by Julia Cameron. Hosted by Kathleen L. Mack, MPH, MA (Class in session now closed to new registrants)

The Artists Way is a program for those interested in finding their heart’s balance and a connection to self. It is for artists, and non-artists alike, who are going through life’s transitions and wish to know themselves in a more positive and and more creative way. The content of the book will be used, along with experiential expressive art, visual as well as written journaling, and relaxation exercises. We hope the “organic” nature of these sessions will help meet each individuals learning style. Follow up will be provided so participants can continue to move forward and thrive. Please bring your own book (or you may purchase a copy at the first meeting), a pen/pencil and a pad. All other supplies (pastels, paper, etc) will be provided by fosteringArts.org.

Kathleen L. Mack, MPH, MA is a practitioner in Holistic Counseling (1997–present) individuals, couples, workshops. As a holistic counselor, Kathy specializes in counseling, coaching, and body-mind-spirit integration. Traditional and complementary therapies include expressive art, visual journaling, talk &/or meditation. The goal of this work is to support clients in integrating the relationship between what the mind and the heart say, and know. This process reaches those who are in transition, in need of understanding their spiritual journey, experiencing fear or depression, or simply wanting to become more mindful of their ways of being.

Jennifer Cooke, a native of Glocester, RI brings two of her multi talents to fAo Summer Classes.  A graduate of Rhode Island College with BS in Music Education and MAT in Dance and Instructional Technology, Jennifer has been teaching classical flute for many years.  She performs Celtic flute and whistle in the duo, COOKE~VAN GIESON as well as with other groups in the area.  Meanwhile she hones her skills in basketry at Hannah Brook Farm where she writes, bakes and gathers inspiration for diverse creativity.

Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. LORA ENCOURAGES YOU TO DITCH THE WORKOUT, AND JOIN THE PARTY! Z-U-M-B-A! Lora LoPiccolo is a Certified Level 1 Zumba Instructor and who continues to study Zumba on a weekly basis with renowned Salsa and Zumba instructor Anna Mihalova.

Lora is also a Certified Yoga Teacher (CYT-200) who has been practicing yoga for over 7 years, and teaching for more than 3 years. Lora received her yoga training through Ellen Schaeffer and the Integrative Yoga Therapy program in Foster, RI, at the One Center for Yoga and Wellness. Intro to Nature Drawing, Fridays, 9:30am-11:00am, July 10 – July 31, cost $70.00 plus $10.00 materials if required.

Jim Cooke, who has studied art for over a decade, recently received a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design. While on full tuition scholarship at the college, he also studied Renaissance art in Italy for three winter sessions. Jim works in his home studio in Glocester, Rhode Island, preparing a body of works in various mediums, combining Renaissance techniques with modern materials.

August 7, 14, 21 & 28. Cost $45.00 including materials.

Valery Thurber has a BS in Art Education from  Rhode Island College and has taught art at  Scituate Middle School. Valery has also been Summer Art Program Coordinator and Instructor. At present, Valery is working as a Substitute Teacher while she works on achieving her Masters of Fine Arts at UMass Dartmouth.
